Today, over 40 private startups have been founded in the United States, Japan, the EU, and China with the goal of developing fusion reactors that are capable of net power. These firms collectively raised over ten billion dollars. A recent MIT study forecasted that this new space could create $3.6 trillion in economic value between 2035 and the end of the century. Since 2020 there has been a slew of fusion related events, reports, studies and groups forming within the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Korea and China. Meanwhile there has been a steady drumbeat of technical advances within the private and public sector with commercial opportunities for New York State companies to sell diagnostics, materials, services, fuel systems and other hardware to these growing companies. New York State needs to can and should position itself to win these jobs.
